The website has been upgraded to the latest and greatest versions of the software thanks almost entirely to the hard work of [AsG]Pure. We still have some clean up to do, so let us know if there are any pages not working the way they should be. This server work is the first phase of a new site redesign that’s coming later this year

Matchmaker

As part of the server upgrade, everyone will need to be running Matchmaker 2.2.0.1aw or higher, available as always from the Matchmaker Download page if autoupdate doesn’t work.

Season 11 Changes

We’re making some changes in the next season. Instead of resetting everyone’s rank, the full league points will be used, however only those that have played within the last season will be listed on the league table. Players that have not played in the past 90 days can get back on the league table by playing a ranked game at any time, but no more climbing to the top and sitting there.

Once again Nici pulled the top spot of the leagues followed closely only 10 points behind by Meph. [AsG]Spinnifix took third place.

Nici and Meph also made it the farthest on Leaf’s Journey reaching Stage 6 and Stage 3 respectively to collect their prizes!

Two years of Seasonal Leagues

The seasonal leagues have now been going on for two years. Have any ideas on how to improve them? Want to get rid of them entirely? Let us know on the forums!

Time Limit Updates in Season 8

Starting with Season 8, the time limit for games involving Pro players has been reduced to 2 minutes. Any team consisting of Pros that loses in 2 minutes or more will lose points accordingly. We also have good news for Preacher ranks - you’re now pros!

20 years ago, Bullfrog created Populous: The Beginning. We will celebrate this with a special event taking place in the months November and December, so everyone spread the word and get as many people to play during these 2 months because we have something of biblical proportions planned, its gonna rain bullfrogs!!

We are also expecting some very special guests, we cant spoil too much yet, but keep an eye on our forums because in a few weeks they will make a topic with an important announcement for all populous players.

At least try to make sure you are online in our matchmaker on November 29th and 30th for some real Populous Magic!

Congratulations to the winners of Season 5: Nici_OP with 510 points, followed by Meph at 451 and Spinnifix with 440. Despite losing 61,633 followers, Nici still managed to pull ahead again, so try a bit harder next season!

XP System

Starting in Season 6 there is a new XP system implemented. Players will gain XP for playing games winning, and completing achievements. All values from people testing this system have been reset. We’’ve added a bunch of new achievements relating to spells cast either in a single game or over many games, plus we’ll be introducing limited time challenges to be completed for even more XP!

Gain enough XP and you’ll level up and get a nice little bonus of some wood.

Wood and Betting

Bonus of wood? That doesn’t sound too exciting! But you can use your new collection of wood to place bets on games.

All bets must be placed before the game starts or within the first 2 minutes to count. You pick the teams and the map, and your wager, we’ll give you the odds and payout if you win.
